In this article, we are going to tell you some interesting facts about Amity University that you might not know until now.

Amity University is consistently ranked as one of the top colleges in India, largely because of its facilities and the quality of education. This includes Amity’s Business School, which has been ranked 7th in the country. From India, only 15 universities are considered in both, University Rankings and World University Rankings. These consisted of seven Institute of Technology (IIT) colleges and three Central Universities. Amity was the only non-profit private university to have been included in these rankings.

Amity seems to have ranked consistency high in a number of different fields and courses. Here are some of Amity’s rankings:

Amity University Logo:

“The Amity University logo is represented in a shield divided into dark blue and golden yellow sections by an upward sweeping line that depicts growth and progress in life, achievable through education. While the shield shape represents the resolute shelter of truth, two contrasting yet adjacent colours connote a blend of modernity with tradition.

The dark blue with contemporary cues of technology, performance and advancement strikes a synergy with the golden yellow radiance of tradition, culture and values. The flame represents the purity and passion for knowledge, while the upper and lower parts of the flame replicate the arch of ‘A’ and the bend of ‘U’ respectively, the two leading alphabets of Amity University.”

Hi-Tech Campus and Infrastructure

Another way that Amity draws one’s attention is by highlighting its hi-tech campus and “world-class” infrastructure, claiming that “at Amity, we benchmark only against the best institutions around the world. Our faculty and senior team travel all over the globe to learn and imbibe the best practices so that we can give a solid foundation for learning.”

Amity University has:

Military Training

Before we get specifically into the interesting facts, I thought this was a pretty unique aspect of Amity. At least to the extent of my knowledge, I don’t think many universities have military training as part of their program.

The motto reads:

Making You a True Leader

Every student is required to go through a 7-day Military Training Camp, held at their campus in Manesar located close to the National Security Guard Training Camp. Training is conducted by veterans of the armed forces, which I’m assuming is both, fun and informative.

The idea behind the Military Training Camp is to teach students the value of discipline, commitment, perseverance and patriotism. At the Camp, students partake in a number of different activities designed to test their mental and physical agility. These include:

  1. Parasailing (fun)
  2. Trekking
  3. Shooting
  4. Rock Climbing/Rappelling (fun)

Foreign Language

Given Amity’s international presence, it is not surprising that they offer a range of language programmes. These language courses have been integrated into the curriculum. Students have the option to choose from:

  1. French
  2. German
  3. Spanish
  4. Japanese
  5. Chinese

101 Attributes of an Amitian

Amity adheres to certain values and ethics, like courage and respect for elders. As such, they created “101 Attributes of an Amitian” that explored the norms and guidelines to build different character traits. The booklet explains that these “attributes have been built into the teaching activities, group activities and have been included in topics for lectures and discussions by students.”

All Amity campuses celebrate something called a “Human Values Quarter” for which a number of events are organised with the aim to spread awareness about the importance of human values.

Amity University was the first private University in India to introduce reservations for students from certain castes. Until this year, private institutions were not required to uphold the following rules instated by the UGC — Educational institutions and Colleges were required to reserve a portion of their seats for applicants that originated from certain castes or tribes that are at a disadvantage compared to other applicants. This is called Reservations. In January of this year,

“For the first time, private higher education institutions, both aided and unaided, will have to reserve 10% seats for the economically weaker sections, according to the reservation bill passed in the Lok Sabha…”

Amity University, however, chose to introduce reservations well before this, becoming the first private University in India to do so.

Of course, they also have a gym and numerous cafeterias that serve a ton of delicious food, including a Dosa Plaza. That Dosa Plaza apparently serves 104 different types of dosa.
