Do you remember your New Year’s Resolutions for 2019? A lot of us tend to set objectives for ourselves at the beginning of the year only to forget them within a week or two. But what about regular goals that we set for ourselves every day? People regularly say that they were meaning to do something but never got the time to pursue it. It could be learning to drive or playing a new instrument or even studying for a test; there is always something that we’ve wanted to do but either lost interest or forgot about them completely. It is easy to lose track of your goals and even easier to give up on them entirely but let’s face it, no one feels good about giving up on anything. To try and help you stick to your goals more, we’ve prepared a list of tips to make sure that you’re equipped to do just that. So without further ado, here are a few things you can do to stay focused on your goals:
- One Objective At A Time: If you set up more goals than you have time to achieve, there is no doubt that you will fail at them. Instead of trying to focus on several things at once, focus on a singular objective and pursue a new objective once you’ve completed your original task. Always remember that the quality of your work is much more important than the amount of work that you do.
2. Elaborate The Steps To Achieve Your Goal: How you achieve your goals is very important to consider and plan. Try and list out the different tasks you need to do in order to fully achieve the goals you have set for yourself. Doing this will help you understand what you need to do and the importance of doing it in relation to the overall goals that you’re aiming to achieve.
3. Set Milestones For Yourself: Milestones are a good way to figure out how much work you have completed as well as how much work is left for you to do. Rewarding yourself with each milestone will also help encourage you to finish all the tasks ahead of you. The only thing we’d like to mention is that rewarding yourself can be a slippery slope and milestones should be taken as good progress towards achieving your goals and not as a reason to take a break from achieving them.
4. Track Your Results: Doing a quick analysis of how much you’ve achieved regularly will help you understand how much progress you have made. Tracking will also make shortcomings and deviations apparent in relation to the plans you have set up to achieve your goals. Take corrective action and make sure that you’re sticking to the tasks that are necessary to be done.
5. Goal Buddies: There is a famous saying that everything is easier with some company and the same goes for achieving your goals. Setting up your goals with a friend or two will help you stick to them more as you will have people who will not only help you in ensuring that you stick to the tasks you need to do but will also act as an outlet for you to speak about what you’ve achieved and also about your journey in achieving it. Ask your friends if they’re looking to learn or take up something new and if you’re fortunate enough, there’ll be someone who will be interested in setting up goals together.
Though achieving what you’ve set out to do is easier said than done and can even get strenuous and pressurizing, there’s no better feeling than being happy about what you’ve achieved after you’ve finally completed your goals.
